what if you took it yourself?”
We started from that one plain question and built a way of shooting around it: the remote in your own hand, and the most natural version of you on the record.
The self-portrait attempt
A way of shooting that takes away the other person’s gaze, and the tension that arrives with it. Nothing left in the room to perform for, so the only thing to focus on is you.
Recorded as it is
Not the standard studio poses. The expression and the feeling you actually turned up with, held in an analogue register rather than corrected out of the frame.
The space, extended
What began as a private studio session became something anyone can walk into off the street. The whole thing, deliberately made ordinary.
WHERE STATION 04 SITS
The atelier is the far left of the floor: the cyclorama, the camera on its tripod, the boom light overhead, and the edit desk right beside the set. Everything to the right of the divider is the rest of the studio.
STATION 04 · YOU ARE HEREWHAT’S IN THE ROOM
Everything here exists to remove a decision from you. Light that works from any angle, a background that disappears, and a shutter you can reach without leaving the frame.
Twin softbox strobes
Two large softboxes angled in from either side, with a second pair on wall-mounted boom arms above. Broad, even light with no hard edge, which is why you can move anywhere on the set without walking out of your own lighting.
Seamless white cyclorama
The backdrop runs from the wall down onto the floor with no corner and no seam for a shadow to catch on. It is what makes the background read as nothing at all rather than as a room.
Wired remote shutter
The cable you can see in every frame we shoot here. You fire it, so the timing belongs to you, no countdown, no one behind the camera waiting for you to be ready.
Tethered capture & edit desk
The camera feeds straight to the monitor beside the set. Shots land on screen as you take them, so you can see the take, adjust and go again without breaking the session, and this is the same desk the style lab runs on afterwards.
WHAT YOU WALK OUT WITH
Full studio-quality captures, printed and delivered as files. Every one of these was taken with nobody else in the room.
THE STYLE LAB
When the shooting is done you sit down at the desk beside the set. Pick your frames, pick a style, and the same portrait comes back as something else, a cyanotype, an album sleeve, a thermal scan. Three renders are yours to keep.
